During the ice storm of 1998, a family man stays behind to hold watch over his house while the rest of the family retreats to Mamere’s. In his solitude (but for his insatiable dog), he contemplates the strides mankind had taken towards present times, considering technology, academic pursuits and tenacity in the face of adversity.​

Facing the mistakes of her past, she must consider whether she herself is a survivor or an enduring victim of a life not-so-very-well lived.
